Wilde Hunt Corsetry - How to Lace a Corset Up By Yourself

<lj-embed id="1467" />

Hello! I just completed an instructional video that I thought could be of interest to some of the members of the community who may be new to corset-wearing. People are often baffled when I tell them that it is indeed possible to lace up a corset by yourself, so I decided to make a video to show how to do this. I also have a free diagram on my website, Wilde Hunt Corsetry showing how to thread your laces in the pattern I show in the video. I hope you find it useful!

Larissa

My corset to the Edwardian Ball

I took my inspiration from Edward Gorey's more fantasy-based black and white illustrations.

I used the Silverado corset pattern from Laughing Moon #100. The base is white coutil with taffeta fashion fabric (not interfaced, but treated as one fabric). Boning channels along the seams are external bias binding. Non-seam boning has internal channels. Boning is 1/4" spiral steel, except for either side of the lacing grommets, which has flat steel. The front has a black busk closure -- the one I had wasn't long enough, so there are two hooks at the bottom to hold it closed. I created an asymmetric ruffle-and-taffeta detail for the bodice with bias binding for the bottom. It also has a lining layer and a floating "X" boned modesty panel.

I was very happy with the way it turned out, and it was really comfortable. I wore it for about 6 hours and wasn't in a hurry to get it off. Apparently I've been waist-training without realizing it - this was a 4" reduction already. If I changed anything, I would make it a little smaller all over. and add more grommets for lacing.

If you want to see some of my other creations, check out my Facebook page: www.facebook.com/donnajasondesigns

Hello! My name is Amy. I am a fashion/costume student, and I've been lurking this community for a while now. I am currently doing a project on steampunk, and was wondering if any of you would mind answering a few questions for me. Despite having a long held interest, I do not participate in the fashion myself, and so would like some insight from people who do.

This survey is quite long, so don't feel obliged to fill it all out straight away. Thank you for your assistance!

Age/Location;

What is your area of occupation?
Titillating Tuesday fine gents and doves.

I promised a thousand breaths back that I would present you with the delectable spoils of a Steamy photo shoot featuring my steampunk mask creations, which was planned to take place in a luxurious, local Victorian Guest House... and here I am. Ready to deliver. Fashionably late I hope?

There are too many spectacular images to show so I may just release them in bursts of two.

I was blessed to find a damned near Godly photographer: Vince Hemingson
And two heart-achingly fetching models: Manny Uppal and Saori Sloan

And of course matey, my work be the masks: Shay Lhea of OcultoSteamMasks

Feast your eyes:

Aren't they tasty?! It's less complicated than I'd normally do, but I can wear it all evening without it getting in my way, and can run around to help out players without tripping or jingling too much.

And I'll be wearing this in my hair, and some fairly vamped up makeup.

Skirt by Steampunk Emporium, corset by Orchard Corset, choker by Scarlet Rabbit, fasincator by Plume Delight, shirt from a friend, petticoat made by me.

The skirt looks more full when it's being worn, but I can't for the life of me get the damned wrinkles out.
Steampunk Wedding Ideas?

Hello everyone! I have a question for any of you who may want to help me.

Essentially, in May I'm going to a Steampunk wedding, and we're all invited to dress in costume. The trouble here is, I've never done anything like this, and while I would really want to, and my boyfriend definitely is, I just don't even know where to start. Can anyone give me any ideas of how to come up with a costume? This may sound like a really simple, terribly open-ended question, but I honestly don't even know where to begin, so any help offered would be much, much appreciated. Thank you all so much in advance!

Incorporating Cosplay/Roleplaying Into Steampunk - Is It a Good Idea or Does It "Water Down" Steampu

I am in a dilemma, a quandary, if you will. The issue at hand? Whether aspects of cosplay/roleplaying should be used in steampunk. I don't mean entertainment performances like League of S.T.E.A.M. or Steam Powered Giraffe. And, when I say cosplay, I don't just only mean the concept of roleplaying, I also mean that cosplay costumes and non-steampunk costumes are worn and welcomed.

The question is, should a steampunk convention be based upon a story of two kingdoms at war that go to battle, said battle acted out by participants selected by the event promoter prior to the convention and then the winning kingdom "reigns" over the convention and all convention participants must act in accordance with the "laws" set forth by that winning kingdom. Oh, and the theme of the convention is Morrocan Bazaar, ONLY because this then gives the event promoter an opportunity to wear her saris with her purple wig which she doesn't steam up at all.

I've asked this question locally and the event promoter gets very offended, says that steampunk IS cosplay, calls anyone who thinks steampunk should be separate from cosplay as "pompous elitist snobs," yes, she wrote this on Facebook, says you are "putting a cap on creativity" by thinking they should be separate and that you are "killing imagination which kills the very essence of Steampunk itself."

I would love to hear the opinions of others. The people on here are true steamers, IMO, and I respect all of your opinions. If I hear enough people say they don't see a problem with this, I will respect those opinions and change mine.
